Males represent 25% of individuals with anorexia nervosa, and they are at a higher risk of dying, in part because they are often diagnosed later since many people assume males don't have eating disorders *
We are Ben and Nick White, two brothers from the Greater Boston Area set out on a mission to educate adults and children on the prevalence of eating disorders in male athletes through easy to access information, published research, and other valuable resources.
We hope the information we have compiled, along with our story, will begin to educate you on eating disorders and the stark impact they can have on an individual's life, relationships with family and friends, and athletic careers.
Eating disorders are typically associated with females. Although they also exist in males, which is often overlooked when warning signs are present. This website is meant to bring awareness to eating disorders in all young adults, but specifically in males.
We attended Weston High School in Massachusetts. Ben attended for all four years and Nick for three. We both played lacrosse (Ben played hockey too) in high school, eventually becoming varsity captains of our respective teams. While neither of us continued athletics at the collegiate level, we both committed our teenage years to become stronger and more skilled competitors.
In June of 2017, Nick started his recovery from an eating disorder that so nearly took his life. Since then, we have set out to educate, inform, and eliminate the stigma surrounding eating disorders in male athletes. We believe that a well informed athletic director, coach, trainer, or teammate can all have the tools to one day save a life.
We would like to thank you for visiting our site to gain a base of knowledge surrounding the issue of eating disorders in young adults.
