We believe that educating yourself is the first step toward helping someone who may be struggling with an eating disorder. While we are not experts, we do believe that "a little goes a long way" towards helping someone with an eating disorder. You can begin a conversation with an individual you may be worried about by offering your support and a safe space to conversate. If you feel that there is an urgent situation evolving in an individual, it is best to inform a parent or caregiver of your concern.Â
You can help save a life and enable an individual to lead a healthy lifestyle again!
It may be difficult as an adult to decipher healthy and unhealthy eating and training habits among young athletes. After all, a great athlete will eat the healthiest and train the hardest they can.
The easiest way to spot an individual that may be developing an eating disorder is to be aware of eating or training habits that seem "excessive" or may be primarily focused on intentionally ridding one's body of calories or "compensating" for caloric intake.
Below is a brochure from the National Eating Disorders Association that lays out steps for early intervention in athletes.
